The GOP-led House is expected to vote Wednesday on the "Detain and Deport Illegal Aliens Who Assault Cops Act," connecting the issue of illegal immigration to "Police Week."

House GOP lawmakers marked Police Week on Tuesday evening with a vigil and on Wednesday with a news conference focused on supporting law enforcement.

The bill would "amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to provide for the detention of certain aliens who commit assault against law enforcement officer."

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said he hopes the House can come together and pass the bill in bipartisan fashion.
