Two major media outlets have announced that they would stop using The Associated Press and its content, according to reports.

The Gannett and McClatchy news chains are publishers of multiple outlets including USA Today and the Miami Herald.

Gannett spokeswoman Lark-Marie Anton said they decision to stop using AP content was to "invest further in our newsrooms."

This decision was made amid the struggling financial state of the news industry, according to ABC News.

“We appreciate that these are difficult decisions to make and deeply understand the challenges the news industry faces,” AP spokeswoman Lauren Easton said. “At the same time, this would be a disservice to news consumers across the U.S. who would no longer see fact-based journalism from the AP.”
