911 outages overnight in four states kept millions from contacting emergency operators

Many of the outages had been restored by Thursday morning, but authorities said they still don't know what caused them

Several 911 outages late Wednesday night across Nevada, Nebraska, South Dakota and Texas resulted in millions of people being unable to contact local authorities.

Many of the outages had been restored by Thursday morning, but authorities said they still don't know what caused them, according to NBC News.

They also said there is no evidence the outages were a result of a cyberattack.

“We are aware of reports of 911-related outages and we are currently investigating,” the Federal Communications Commission wrote on the social media platform, X on Thursday.

The outages in Del Rio, Texas, were a result of a T-Mobile service issue, not the city's systems.

"Anybody who is a T-Mobile customer was having problems using their phones,” Juan Hernandez, the department's communications supervisor said. “It was nothing that was on our end, there was no 911 outage, it was a T-Mobile coverage outage.”

In Douglas County, Nebraska, officials said that the outages were a result of a fiber cut.
