"She's worked for all kinds of Democrats, made all kinds of money....that should definitely be a conflict," Jordan said.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, said Tuesday that there is a conflict of interest with former President Donald Trump's hush money trial because the judge's daughter has a history of working for prominent Democrats.

"It's certainly a conflict of interest," Jordan said on the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show when asked about the issue. "Judge Merchan's daughter looks like she worked for just about every major Democrat you can think of."

Trump has twice demanded New York Judge Juan Merchan be recused from his criminal trial, arguing that Merchan has a conflict of interest because his daughter worked for a Democratic consulting group and has represented politicians such as Vice President Kamala Harris.

"She's worked for all kinds of Democrats, made all kinds of money, that should definitely be a conflict," Jordan said. "But this judge doesn't seem to care."

Merchan has refused to recuse himself from the case. Trump is accused of falsifying business records in the hush money case involving porn star Stormy Daniels. The trial for the hush money case formally began earlier this month, which made Trump the first former president to stand trial for an alleged crime.

Judge Merchan's daughter Loren Merchan made headlines over reports that she heads a fundraising agency called Authentic Campaigns that raises money for Democrats.

Neither Authentic Campaigns or Merchan have responded for requests for comment at this time.

According to the Code of Conduct for United States Judges, Canon 2B states that "a judge should not allow family, social, political, financial, or other relationships to influence judicial conduct or judgment."
