Embattled ABC News President Kim Godwin resigns
ABC News President Kim Godwin resigned Sunday night, following a corporate restructuring earlier this year that limited management autonomy her
Godwin in her announcement also said she is retiring from broadcast journalism.
“Anyone who’s passionate about what we do knows there’s no other business like it, so this was not an easy or quick decision," she said in a staff email Sunday night. "But after considerable reflection, I’m certain it’s the right one for me as I look to the future and prioritize what’s most important for me and my family.”
Godwin was named president of the network's news division in 2021.
The restructuring in February resulted in her getting a new boss, Debra OConnell, who previously was president of parent Disney’s news group.
Godwin during her tenure reportedly was a polarizing figure inside the network and failed to rise up to challenges facing the unit – including a decline in ratings at “Good Morning America,” according to the Wall Street Journal.
