Filmmaker says Hunter Biden scandal movie running into liberal Hollywood headwinds

Actors 'know that if they act in this, they'll never work again in Hollywood,' conservative filmmaker Phelim McAleer says.

Irish filmmaker Phelim McAleer is producing a film chronicling the highly publicized and complicated life of President Biden's son Hunter Biden. But his efforts to make the picture and get it onto a screen face stiff Hollywood headwinds.

"We know that Hollywood won't make these movies, and people want to see them," the conservative filmmaker told the TV show Just the News AM with Sophie Mann. "People want the truth out there."

Hunter Biden, an America lawyer and businessman, lived in relative obscurity despite his father's five decades in elected office, which included a long time as U.S. Senator from Delaware and vice president for all eight years of the Obama administration.

But much of that changed when his father, Joe Biden, in 2019 made almost assuredly his final bid for the American presidency and emerged as the presumptive Democratic nominee.

Hunter Biden having serving on the board of Burisma Holdings, a major Ukraine natural gas company, while his father was still vice president for at least two years, became the subject of great interest and concern during the 2020 presidential election cycle.

Critics raised repeated questions about Hunter Biden's high-paying post – amid his father's anti-corruption efforts in the Ukraine as vice president.

The interest and intrigue hit a high point in October 2020, weeks before Election Day, when The New York Post reported that Hunter Biden had left a laptop at Delaware computer repair shop that included emails about his business interests in China and Ukraine.

"There's a real hunger for the truth out there," McAleer told Just the News. "But don't forget this story was not just ignored before the election, it was actively suppressed by big media and big tech."

Hunter Biden, who also has struggled with addiction, remains under FBI investigation relating to his tax filings.

McAleer says his crowdfunded film – titled "My Son Hunter" – will go in depth about Biden's business dealings including alleged bribes.

The creators hope their absurdist, comedic approach will break through and inform audiences about the Biden family corruption – as seen through the eyes of Hunter Biden.

McAleer points to a Media Research Center poll that shows 36% of Democratic voters did not know about the Hunter Biden story before the 2020 presidential election, and 13% would not have voted for Joe Biden had they known.

However, just raising money to produce the film in liberal-leaning Hollywood has been an uphill challenge, McAleer said.

McAleer was behind a 2018 film on former abortion doctor and convicted murderer Kermit Gosnell, the film "ObamaGate," and the play "FBI Lovebirds: Undercovers" about FBI agent Peter Strzok and FBI lawyer Lisa Page’s secret text messages amid the Russia collusion investigation.

McAleer said one of the early problems with the Biden film is finding actors willing to deliver its anti-Hollywood, anti-liberal message.

"Not because the roles aren't good," he said. "My God, the roles are wonderful. ...They just know that if they act in this, they'll never work again in Hollywood."

McAleer said the film's screenwriter, in fact, has requested to remain anonymous for fear of being "canceled" or becoming a target within the business.

In just the first few days of crowdfunding, the project has reached 12% of its $2.5 million goal, McAleer says.

"You may think you know the story, but the truth is more damning than you could ever imagine!" the MySonHunter.com website tells supporters.

Filming is scheduled to take place over the summer, and once completed, the movie will be free to the public.
