The National Hockey League is condemning Russia's invasion of Ukraine and says it has suspended business relationships with Russian partners.

The league, which has 37 Russian players among its 32 teams, made the announcement Monday and said it also is suspending its Russian language social and digital media sites, five days after the invasion was launched.

"The National Hockey League condemns Russia's invasion of Ukraine," the statement reads. "We ... remain concerned about the well being of the players from Russia, who play in the NHL on behalf of their NHL Clubs, and not on behalf of Russia. We understand they and their families are being placed in an extremely difficult position."

The league, in the statement, also "urges a peaceful resolution as quickly as possible and that it is "discontinuing any consideration of Russia as a location for any future competitions involving the NHL."
