X flags NYT Columnist Krugman for 'misleading' post on inflation numbers – minus food, energy
New York Times columnist Paul Krugman was flagged by the social media platform X, for putting out "misleading" information after he posted inflation figures minus food and energy prices.
"The war on inflation is over," Krugman wrote on X. "We won, at very little cost."
The chart he posted showed the Consumer Price Index over six months, but specifically excluded food, energy, shelter and used cars.
"The exclusion of food, shelter, energy, and used cars is misleading," the X community notes read. "All prices included in CPI show year over year inflation at 3.7% as of September 2023."
The Labor Department reported Wednesday that wholesale prices in the U.S. increased last month at their fastest pace since April.
The rise suggests inflationary pressures remain, despite roughly 18 months of higher interest rates.
