A total of 444 7-Eleven stores are being shut down across North America due to underperforming, the company announced.

7-Eleven’s Japan-based parent company, Seven & I Holdings, announced in an earnings report on Thursday that a decrease in sales, inflation and smaller traffic have impacted this decision.

As of now it is not known which specific stores are closing, according to Fox Business.

There are about 13,000 7-Eleven stores across the United States and Canada. This decision will impact about 3% of the company's portfolio.

The company also noted that cigarette sales have been decreasing, which has caused some issues.

Seven & I Holdings stated that it would be "a world-class retail group centered around its food that leads retail innovation through global growth strategies centered on the 7-Eleven business and proactive utilization of technology."
