The Longworth House Office Building at the U.S. Capitol complex was placed under a temporary shelter-in-place order Thursday morning when a congressional staffer brought a gun onto the premise.
The U.S. Capitol Police said that officers "spotted the image of a handgun in a bag on the x-ray screen," which belonged to 57-year-old Jeffrey Allsbrooks, a staffer with the House Chief Administrative Office.
Allsbrooks is being charged with carrying a pistol without a license, according to law enforcement.
"This case remains under investigation and the Department is looking into what happened before, during and after those four minutes," read a statement from the USCP.
The incident occurred the morning of the day that ceremonies as the U.S. Capitol Rotunda are scheduled to take place for the late Senator Bob Dole. President Biden is set to visit the Capitol for that reason later today.
