Congresswoman: 'We won’t be the same as a country’ after coronavirus, comparing pandemic to 9/11

Rep. Elissa Slotkin is comparing the coronavirus pandemic to the 9/11 terror attacks and said the U.S. “won’t be the same as a country afterward.”

Stolkin, a member of the House Armed Services and Homeland Security Committees, is a former Central Intelligence Agency analyst who served in Iraq and a former under secretary of Defense for Policy toward the Middle East.

“We’re in the middle of a generational event just like 9/11 was a generational event, Slotkin, a Michigan Democrat, said on a conference call organized by the group JewishDems about the coroanvirus.

"And we remember where we were and who we were with when we heard of 9/11 and what happened," she continued. "We will remember this period in the same way and we just won’t be the same as a country afterwards.”

Stolkin said members of Congress are feeling “real stressed for not being able to help their constituents” who are suffering during the coronavirus pandemic.

“I think it’s just a moment of anxiety for people, and the job of congresswoman has gone from helping people deal with their problems with the federal government and legislating on their behalf to really trying to easy and calm fears and give people hope that we have something in store that’s better than today,” she said.
