So-called "Squad" member Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.), who has long been an advocate for defunding the police, is uninjured after her car was hit by gunfire in the St. Louis area on Saturday.

A source close to the Congresswoman on Thursday morning told local outlet 5 On Your Side about the shooting. Bush was not in the parked vehicle when the incident occurred, and Bush does not seem to have been targeted specifically.

The radical House Democrat confirmed the shooting through a statement on Twitter.

"I'm touched by everyone who has reached out. Thankfully no one was harmed.  But any act of gun violence shakes your soul," she wrote. "That's why our movement is working to invest in our communities, eradicate the root causes of gun violence, and keep everyone safe."

Bush criticized Fox News for commentary on the shooting.

"The harsh truth is we need the lawmakers to be victims," Fox commentator and Blue Lives Matter-NYC founder Sgt. Joseph Imperatrice said on "America Reports."

“We need them to understand when the worst situation possible hits them, and then they can turn around and say, ‘Wow, maybe this is an issue. Maybe I need to wake up and do my job and start changing things for the better.' That's how it's going to happen, and I’m not praying for any of these people to get hurt or harmed, but they need to see firsthand how bad the streets really are," Imperatrice said.

Fox anchor Griff Jenkins responded: "We of course would never wish any harm on any American, let alone a politician that we disagreed with, but… maybe it will change their minds. Who knows."

Bush responded on Twitter. "Fox News is literally out here advocating for me to face violence. I'm just gonna keep working to get justice. Y'all stay mad and be blessed," she wrote.

Bush has reiterated her belief that police should be defunded on many different occasions.

In June 2020, the then-candidate said: "We need to defund the police and make sure that money goes back into the communities that need it."

"Medicare, Housing, & College for All. A Green New Deal. UBI. Cancel student & medical debt. End endless wars. Legalize cannabis. Abolish private prisons, cash bail, & ICE. Defund the police. Overturn Citizens United. Reproductive justice. Reparations," she tweeted about her leftist beliefs in September 2020.

"Defund the police. Invest in our communities," she said in March 2021.

Bush and other 'Squad' members have been criticized for spending thousands of dollars on private security despite calling to defund the police.
