The GOP-led House passed legislation on Thursday to enhance security at the U.S.-Mexico border as Title 42 expires.

The bill passed 219 to 213.

The legislation would invest in more technology at the border, restart construction of physical barriers at open areas of the border, and end the Biden administration's "catch-and-release" policy that allows migrants apprehended at the border to enter the U.S.

The bill would bring back the Trump-era policies such as the Remain in Mexico and the Asylum Cooperation Agreements. The Biden administration ended these policies through executive actions.

Title 42 is a decades-old federal rule reactive by the Trump administration at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic to limit migration as a public health emergency.

About 10,000 migrants per day were coming to the U.S.-Mexico border in anticipation of Title 42's expiration on Thursday.
