House panel expected to consider Garland contempt resolution next week

The House Rules Committee is expected to consider a resolution to hold U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress next week.

Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., said that lawmakers have been upset over the recent verdict in former President Donald Trump's hush money case, according to The Hill. Republicans have been critical of Garland's role as attorney general and have argued he has played a major part in the weaponization of the federal government. 

At issue is Garland's refusal to turn over the audio of President Joe Biden's interview with special counsel Robert Hur. While the Department of Justice has provided the transcripts of the interview to Congress, it has not provided the recording.

The resolution has been in limbo for the past few days and has been delayed due to other matters. 

Garland recently testified before the House Judiciary Committee about the Justice Department's alleged weaponization and politicization.
