House committee investigating Jan. 6 Capitol breach issues subpoenas to Trump associates

The subpoenas come as the select committee seeks to investigate what efforts the Trump White House took to suppress the disruptive mob once it breached police barricades.

The House committee investigating the breach of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 has subpoenaed four advisers to former President Donald Trump who were allegedly in close contact with him in the moments leading up to the tumultuous events of the day.

According to the Washington Post, the panel issued subpoenas for former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, former White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications Dan Scavino, former Defense Department official Kash Patel and former Trump adviser Steve Bannon.

The subpoenas come as the select committee seeks to investigate what efforts the Trump White House took to suppress the disruptive mob once it breached police barricades at the Capitol Building and how the spread of alleged misinformation fueled the anger and turbulence that led to the chaos.

Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) instructed the four men to produce all requested documents by Oct. 7, and to prepare for a deposition within the coming weeks. 

The testimony is expected to be conducted behind closed doors.
