The House voted Thursday to repeal the 2002 authorization for the Iraq War, in Congress' effort to scale back presidential war powers.

The 268-161 vote in the Democrat-controlled chamber was largely along party lines, according to The Hill newspaper.

Lawmakers who voted in favor of the repeal argue the nearly 20-year-old authorization for the use of military force (AUMF) is outdated and no longer necessary, the newspaper also reports.
