Liz Cheney on backlash to Biden fist bump: 'We're not sworn enemies. We're Americans'

Wyoming GOP Rep. Liz Cheney is responding to intra-party criticism about her fist-bumping with President Biden as he entered the House chamber Wednesday night for his joint address to Congress.

"I disagree strongly w/@JoeBiden policies, but when the president reaches out to greet me in the chamber of the US House of Representatives, I will always respond in a civil, respectful & dignified way," Cheney tweeted Thursday. We’re different political parties. We’re not sworn enemies. We’re Americans."

Cheney, part of GOP House leadership, has become a major target for the GOP's Trump wing after she voted after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot to impeach then-President Trump

" 'Republican' warmonger Liz Cheney gives Sleepy Joe a fist bump after he delivered a radical socialist vision for the future of America," Trump tweeted. "So glad she’s in the GOP leadership, I guess they wanted to be more inclusive and put Democrats in there too?!?" 

The former president has already targeted Cheney for defeat in next year's midterm.
