Manchin says he’d endorse Alaska Republican Sen. Murkowski

Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.V., says he is open to endorsing Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski if she runs again in Alaska next year.

“I've met a lot of good people in Alaska, they know when they've got the real deal,” Manchin said earlier this week during a Politico podcast. “And they see the person that basically is bringing both sides together, trying to look for the best interest.”

Manchin has been a crucial swing Democrat vote who has blocked some of President Biden’s agenda. Murkowski was a frequent Republican antagonist of former President Donald Trump.

“I do not know where other people will be next year, but I know where I will be, in Alaska campaigning against a disloyal and very bad Senator,” Trump said recently.

Manchin said Alaskans have confidence in Murkowski because of her bipartisanship.

“People understand they have a person that understands Alaska and has Alaska in her blood and in every part of her veins and every morsel of her body,” he said.
