Pelosi extends remote voting through Christmas, citing ongoing 'public health emergency'

Rep. McCarthy has pledged to end remote voting if he becomes Speaker after the midterm elections.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday announced the extension of remote voting because of an ongoing "public health emergency."

Citing a notification from the House Sergeant-at-Arms and the Office of Attending Physician, the California Democrat said that a "public health emergency" is still in effect.

Remote voting has been in place since Jan. 4, 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pelosi is extending the measure until December 25, 2022, after it was set to expire on Thursday.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has pledged to end remote voting if the final midterm tally shows the GOp will be have the House majority next year and he becomes speaker, according to Fox News
