Rep. Banks says Biden chuckling when telling fentanyl death story 'shameful and embarrassing'

Indiana Republican Rep. Jim Banks is criticizing President Joe Biden for appear to laugh while telling a story about a mother who lost her two sons to fentanyl overdoses. 

"Shameful and embarrassing," Banks tweeted Wednesday in response to a video of Biden's speech at the Democratic Caucus Issues Conference

Biden appeared to laughter came when he mocked Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.)

"Isn't she amazing?" the president said. Biden said he read that Greene said a mother who lost two of her sons from fentanyl blamed their overdose deaths on Biden. 

"Well, the interesting thing is, that fentanyl they took came during the last administration," Biden said while laughing. 

Fentanyl overdose deaths have been skyrocketing, with nearly 107,000 deaths in 2021, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
