House Freedom Caucus Chair called Trump to encourage him to nominate Coney Barrett to Supreme Court

Rep. Andy Biggs, chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, had a phone conversation with President Donald Trump and encouraged him to nominate Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court, Just the News has learned.

Biggs and other Republican members of Congress sent a letter to Trump in support of Coney Barrett, a judge for the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

"We are confident that Judge Barrett, if nominated and confirmed to the Supreme Court, will respect and defend the original text of the U.S. Constitution, as intended by America’s founding fathers," read the letter sent Wednesday. "Her presence and critical vote on our nation’s highest court will help restore the balance of the separation of powers between the executive, legislative, and judicial branches."

Biggs's office was not able to elaborate on the details of the phone conversation between the congressman and the president but confirmed that the conversation about Coney Barrett took place.

"He's talking with other lawmakers about the vacancy," said a spokesperson for Biggs when asked about his outreach efforts on behalf of Coney Barrett.
