Republicans, including former President Donald Trump, are fighting back against the narrative the Jan. 6 committee investigating the Capitol riot put forward on Thursday.

"So the Unselect Committee of political HACKS refuses to play any of the many positive witnesses and statements, refuses to talk of the Election Fraud and Irregularities that took place on a massive scale, and decided to use a documentary maker from Fake News ABC to spin only negative footage," Trump posted on his platform Truth Social. "Our Country is in such trouble!"

Sources told Axios earlier this week that the Jan. 6 Committee would use former ABC News President James Goldston to create a "captivating multimedia presentation" for the hearing.

In response to the hearing, several House Republicans focused on the crises facing Americans.

"Gas is still $5 a gallon. Millions of Americans still can't find formula to feed their babies. Inflation is still costing Americans OVER $5,000 this year. Our border is still facing a historic crisis. What did House Democrats do to address these crises tonight? NOTHING," the official House Republicans Twitter account posted shortly after the hearing concluded.

Rep. Jim Joradn (R-Ohio), who refused to cooperate with the committee, asked, "Where’s the primetime hearing on President Biden’s botched Afghanistan withdrawal?"

"I wanted to grab some popcorn to watch this hoax hearing tonight but grocery prices are at an all time high," Rep. Lisa McClain (R-Mi.) tweeted about 20 minutes into the House select committee hearing.

"American babies are laying in the hospital tonight because formula shelves are bare and meanwhile, Democrats are using their time in Congress to punish a former President and attack his supporters," Rep. Diana Harshbarger (R-Tenn.) posted, adding, "How sad."

Liz Harrington, spokeswoman for Trump, began tweeting shortly before the hearing began about numerous reports of voter fraud from the 2020 election with the caption, "Evidence they want you to ignore."

House Republicans slammed the committee in the afternoon before the hearing.

"Nancy Pelosi's sham committee is illegitimate and its sole purpose is to punish Democrats' political opponents," GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik of New York told reporters.

"It will not prevent another Jan. 6 from happening. It is not about finding out why Nancy Pelosi left the capitol so ill-prepared on that day and it does absolutely nothing to address the numerous crises Americans are suffering from every single day because of Joe Biden/Nancy Pelosi's radical left agenda," she noted.
