Ahmaud Arbery's killers convicted of federal hate crimes

The three men were formerly convicted of Arbery's murder in November.

Three men found guilty in the killing of Ahmaud Arbery were on Monday also found guilty of federal hate crimes.

Travis McMichael, Gregory McMichael, and William "Roddie" Bryan were convicted of interference of rights, a federal hate crime, as well as attempted kidnapping. The McMichaels father-son duo were also found guilty of an additional firearms charge.

In February 2020, the men attempted to chase Arbery through their neighborhood just outside of Brunswick, Georgia. They attempted to confine the young black man with their trucks, which led to Arbery being fatally shot.

All three men were convicted in November 2021 for Arbery's murder and are currently serving life sentences. They could now receive additional life sentences for the federal convictions.
