Appeals court blocks Biden's student loan forgiveness plan

A different court ruling had already blocked the program nationwide.

A federal appeals court on Monday blocked President Joe Biden's student loan forgiveness plan, which a different court ruling had already blocked nationwide.

The U.S. 8th Circuit Court of Appeals panel, composed of two Trump appointees and one of former President George W. Bush, said the loan forgiveness program would remain blocked until further notice by the appeals court or the Supreme Court, The Hill reported.

The decision came as a win for six states – Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and South Carolina – which argued that they were negatively affected by the freeze on loan payment collection.

The program was already invalidated last week by a Trump-appointed federal judge in Texas.
