Democrats, liberal pundits claim Supreme Court ‘illegitimate,’ vow defiance in wake of Roe ruling

In the wake of the historic overturning of Roe v. Wade on Friday, multiple Democratic officials and left-wing pundits circulated conspiracy theories about the legitimacy of the Supreme Court and vowed to defy its ruling on the long-standing abortion conflict.

Several elected Democratic representatives in Congress, including New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, intimated that the Supreme Court itself was “illegitimate” due to the ruling and/or the circumstances surrounding the appointment of the court’s justices.

Other progressive fixtures—including onetime-Barack Obama adviser Ben Rhodes and former MSNBC host Keith Olbermann—also claimed that the Supreme Court was “illegitimate” and even, in Olbermann’s case, suggested that the Court should be “dissolved” or at the very least ignored.

Some left-wing groups, meanwhile, such as the anti-gun March for Our Lives, echoed those conspiracy theories.

The Court’s decision on Friday returns control of abortion regulation to the states.
