Decision day?: Judge in Spears case could decide whether to end pop star's conservatorship

A hearing Wednesday for Britney Spears could decide whether the pop star's father will be removed from the conservatorship that she's been under for roughly 13 years.

Judge Brenda Penny of the Los Angeles Superior Court has thus far but the brakes on Spears and her legal team's request for an emergency hearing on the request.

But on Wednesday afternoon, she will be pressed to make major decisions on whether to keep Spears' father James Spears as his daughter's conservator and/or whether to end the conservatorship altogether, according to the Associated Press.

The 39-year-old Spears says under the conservatorship she has been denied the life of an adult, including being able to spend her own money, remarry and have more children.

Spears' father sought the conservatorship in 2008 to protect his daughter, who was struggling with mental health issues under the spotlight of stardom.

Spears attorney Mathew Rosengart has been pushing to remove his client's father since Penny allowed his hiring in July. 

Penny denied Rosengart's request for an emergency hearing on the issue, telling the attorney it could wait until Wednesday.

James Spears, who first sought the conservatorship in 2008 and has been its primary overseer ever since, has filed a petition to end it altogether. He urged the judge to make a decision on the issue Wednesday and make questions of his status irrelevant, the wire service also reports.
