Retrial of two men accused of plotting kidnap of Michigan Gov. Whitmer goes to jurors

The case of two men being tried a second time in connection with an alleged plot to kidnap Michigan Democrat Gov. Gretchen Whitmer went to jurors Monday. 

The jury received the case at about noon, following a nine-day trial and closing arguments.

Defendants Adam Fox and Barry Croft Jr. are being retried after the jury deadlocked on the charges against them in their first trial in April, when their defense attorneys argued the FBI entrapped their clients, according to the Associated Press.

Prosecutors in the second trial argued that Fox, who was portrayed as the ringleader of the alleged plot, and Croft had the goal of sparking a second American Revolution.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Nils Kessler argued that the men were willing to kidnap "any governor." The men decided on Whitmer and had plans to execute her, Kessler alleged.
