Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to be sworn-in Thursday to Supreme Court after Breyer officially retires

Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson will be sworn in at Noon Thursday as the newest Supreme Court justice.

She will replace liberal-leaning Justice Stephen Breyer, who officially retires Thursday, when the high court ends its term.

Jackson was confirmed by the Senate earlier this year. The date of her swearing-in ceremony was first reported by SCOTUS Blog.

Breyer early Wednesday announced in a letter to President Biden that he would retire at noon Thursday, as planned.

Jackson will be the 104th associate justice and the first black woman to serve on the court. Her replacing Breyer will not change the court's 6-3 conservative majority.

The final two opinions of the current Supreme Court term will be issued Thursday at 10 a.m.
