Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes found guilty of seditious conspiracy

A jury found Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes and group member Kelly Meggs guilty of seditious conspiracy on Tuesday over their involvement in the events at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

In total, five members of the group faced seditious conspiracy charges. While Rhodes and Meggs were found guilty, Jessica Watkins, Kenneth Harrelson and Thomas Caldwell were acquitted on that count, according to NBC News. All were found guilty of obstruction of an official proceeding and aiding and abetting.

Caldwell was also found guilty of tampering with documents or proceedings and aiding and abetting. Watkins was also convicted of civil disorder and aiding and abetting.

Rhodes fired his attorney prior to the trial and had requested a delay, which the judge denied. Rhodes' replacement attorney, Edward Tarpley, had asserted that Rhodes was "not prepared for trial" due to the "breakdown" in communication between him and his prior legal counsel. Additionally, Oath Keepers general counsel Kellye Sorelle was arrested in August on charges of conspiracy and obstruction of justice.
