Officer who fatally shot Daunte Wright resigns

The Minnesota police officer who fatally shot Daunte Wright resigned Tuesday, authorities said during a press conference.

The officer, Kim Potter, a 26-year veteran, resigned after the fatal shooting during an arrest in the Minneapolis suburb of Brooklyn Center.

In the audio from police body camera video of the incident, Potter seems to say she thought she had pulled a Taser gun from her holster, not a service weapon.

Wright got back into his car after being shot and drove away. He crash a short distance away and died.

The Brooklyn Center police chief also resign in the aftermath of the shooting, authorities said.
