Proud Boys leader pleads not guilty to Jan. 6-related felony charges

Tarrio was not physically at the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio pleaded not guilty Tuesday to conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding and other felony counts in connection to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

Federal prosecutors allege Tarrio led a plan to prevent Congress from certifying now-President Joe Biden's 2020 election win – though Tarrio was not in the capital on January 6, 2021.

A federal magistrate judge previous ruled that Tarrio must remain in jail while awaiting trial. He issued his plea at a virtual hearing. 

If convicted, Tarrio is facing a maximum prison sentence of 20 years. He is facing charges alongside five other co-defendants affiliated with the group.
