Supreme Court rejects Sen. Graham's attempt to avoid subpoena to testify in Georgia election probe
The court said Graham cannot be questioned about protected legislative activity.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham's request for the court to quash a grand jury subpoena requiring him to testify in a 2020 election probe in Georgia.
The justices, in an unsigned order, agreed with the lower courts that Graham could not be asked to talk specifically about issues related to his legislative role but said "a stay or injunction is not necessary to safeguard the senator’s speech or debate clause immunity."
Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas last week issued an order temporarily preventing Graham from testifying.
In the investigation in Georgia, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is investigating allegations that the 2020 Trump campaign tried to influence the results of the election.
