Biden administration freezes Putin, Russian Prime Minister Lavrov's assets

Sanctions follow similar move by the European Union and Britain
Vladimir Putin, March 18, 2021

The Biden administration on Friday said it will freeze the assets of Russian leader Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, following a similar move by the European Union and Britain.

The Treasury Department announced the sanctions after the EU announced the freezing of assets for Putin and Lavrov as part of a larger sanction package against Russia for the invasion of Ukraine, according to the Associated Press.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson told NATO leaders Friday that his country would impose sanctions against Putin and Lavrov, the wire service also reports.
