United Nations member states on Wednesday voted in favor of a resolution to kick Iran off of a women's rights panel.

The resolution, introduced by the United States, passed 29-8 with 16 abstentions in the U.N.'s Economic and Social Council, Politico reported.

The Biden administration lobbied for weeks to have countries support the U.N. resolution as part of a larger pressure campaign against Tehran, which has seen constant protests since the death of Masha Amini, who died in September while in the custody of the Islamic Republic's so-called morality police.
