Zelensky lands in U.S. to meet with Biden, Congress

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday landed at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, where he plans on traveling to D.C. to meet with President Joe Biden and Congress during his first international trip since Russia invaded Ukraine in February.

Zelensky is set to meet with Biden on Wednesday afternoon before addressing Congress this evening, according to multiple media reports.

Biden announced $1.85 billion in additional security assistance for Ukraine during Zelensky's visit. The package will include a Patriot missile battery and training on how to launch the surface-to-air anti-ballistic missile.

"On my way to the US to strengthen resilience and defense capabilities of [Ukraine]," Zelensky tweeted early Wednesday morning. He said he will have a conversation with Biden about cooperation between their two nations. 

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Tuesday told reporters that his party's top priority is securing financial aid for Ukraine. However, many Republicans are souring on providing more assistance to the war-torn country.
