CBP firearms instructor fatally shot during training course, incident reportedly accidental

A Customs and Border Protection firearms instructor was fatally shot while conducting a weapons course at a South Florida gun range, officials said.

Details about the shooting Wednesday morning still remain unclear, but authorities said the Miami-Dade Police Department is leading the investigation.

Local news outlets identified the agent as Jorge Arias, who was shot once in the chest while teaching and later died at the hospital. 

A Miami-Dade Police spokesperson said the department is "not discarding any possibilities" while probing the agent's death. However, sources told the Miami Herald that it appears to have been accidental.
