Former Vice President Mike Pence will not be charged regarding the discovery of classified documents at his Indiana home.

According to a letter obtained by NBC News, the Department of Justice's national security division formally informed Pence’s attorney that it had closed its investigation and the former vice president will not be charged.

Earlier this year, the FBI investigated the matter of classified documents found in Pence's Indiana home shortly after classified documents were found at the Penn Biden Center, a think tank where Joe Biden periodically operated out of after leaving office as vice president.

A Pence adviser told NBC that Pence and his team are not surprised by the investigation’s conclusion.

Pence is expected to announce his 2024 presidential bid next week.

Pence is likely to launch his campaign on June 7, his birthday, at a rally in Des Moines, Iowa, according to multiple news reports. Later that day, he is scheduled to speak at a CNN town hall at Grand View University.
