Texas Republican Rep. Pat Fallon filed articles of impeachment against  Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, wasting no time to deliver on a promise he made before being sworn in.

The impeachment articles introduced Monday accuse Mayorkas of "high crimes and misdemeanors" for undermining law enforcement at the border, Fox News reported. The articles were referred to the House Judiciary Committee.

Fallon promised last week to file the articles after Republicans were formally sworn into the House majority.

"His willful actions have eroded our immigration system, undermined border patrol morale, and jeopardized American national security. He has violated the law and it is time for him to go," Fallon said about Mayorkas last week.

The move to impeach Mayorkas is not unprecedented. In August 2021, Arizona GOP Rep. Andy Biggs filed articles of impeachment against the Homeland Security secretary. Then-House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy proposed impeaching Mayorkas in April 2022.

The articles of impeachment are being filed as record numbers of illegal migrants are crossing the southern border.
