A St. Louis husband and wife, who are also personal-injury lawyers, on Sunday took property protection into the own hands when they stood outside their mansion with guns as protesters marched past to demand the resignation of the city's mayor.

City police said the couple, Mark T. and Patricia N. McCloskey, first called police upon seeing a large crowd break through an iron gate marked with "No Trespassing" and "Private Street"  signs and head down their street.

Police also said people in the crowd were yelled threats at the couple and that the situation is under investigation.

According to the Associated Press, Mark McCloskey told a TV station that the couple was facing an “angry mob” and feared for their lives.

The video of the incident posted on Twitter had 10 million views by Monday morning.

\The couple said they saw people who were armed, so they armed themselves and called police, according to authorities.

The marchers were angry at Mayor Lyda Krewson for reading aloud the names and addresses of several residents who wrote letters calling for defunding the police department.

The group of at least 500 people chanted, “Resign, Lyda! Take the cops with you!” news outlets reported.
