The returns on Wednesday morning from the New York City mayoral race show retired Brooklyn Borough President Captain Eric Adams leading with 31.7% of the vote, followed by Maya Wiley with 22.3%, Kathryn Garcia with 19.5% and Andrew Yang 11.7%.

Wiley is an attorney for Mayor Bill de Blasio and Garcia is former city sanitation commissioner.

The numbers from Election Day on Tuesday do not include the ranked-choice votes that are not not expected to be announced until until June 29, according to The New York Times.

Yang, a 2020 Democrat presidential candidate and early favorite, conceded the race late Tuesday night.

"I am not going to be the mayor of New York City based upon the numbers that have come in tonight," said Yang, according to The Times. "I am conceding this race. Though we're not sure who's the next mayor is going to be, but whoever that person is, I will be very happy to work with them to improve the lives of the 8.3 million people who live in our great city and I encourage everyone here to do the same.

If none of the candidates secures more than 50% of the vote on the first tally, the winner will be determined through rounds of elimination.
