Biden administration considering restarting border wall construction to 'fill gaps,' report

The Biden administration is considering restarting construction of the southern U.S. border wall to fill gaps in the barrier, according to a news report.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told employees within the agency last week that he may restart the construction, The Washington Times reported Monday.

Mayorkas purportedly made the comments to Immigration and Customs Enforcement employees. He said President Biden has stop the flow of Pentagon money for wall construction but there's still "room to make decisions" on finishing some “gaps in the wall."

Mr. Mayorkas, according to notes of the ICE session reviewed by The Times, said Customs and Border Protection, which oversees the wall, has submitted a plan for what it wants to see happen moving forward.

CBP did not return a message from the newspaper seeking comment on what was submitted to Mayorkas.

President Trump made completion of the wall a major objective of his administration, as part of his large initiative to stop the flow of illegal immigration into the U.S.
