Pro-Russia hacking group claims responsibility for attacks on major U.S. airport websites

The group overwhelmed the airport websites' servers with phony requests.

The pro-Russian hacking group "KillNet" is claim responsibility for bringing down the websites of several major U.S. airports, making it difficult or even impossible for travelers to access the sites and get updates on flights. 

The group overwhelmed the websites' servers with phony requests, technology news outlet Bleeping Computer reported Monday.

Among the airports impacted over the weekend were Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International, Los Angeles International Airport and Chicago O'Hare International.

KillNet listed the targeted websites Sunday. The group has previously targeted sites from countries that support Ukraine, such as Italy and Romania.

KillNet has also targeted state government websites in the U.S. including those in Colorado, Kentucky and Mississippi.
