House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is facing criticism for not wearing a COVID mask for at least some part of a California wedding she recently officiated, while students in her home state still must wear one, according to a news report.
The report by Fox News states Pelosi officiated the wedding at San Francisco City Hall before guests who were vaccinated and later went to a reception at Getty Mansion.
The story includes a picture on social media of her surrounded by people, some with drinks in hand. It’s unclear whether Pelosi, the House’s top Democrat, also attended the reception.
The event was also attended by California Gov. Gavin Newsom and San Francisco Mayor London Breed, according to Fox News.
"Gavin Newsom, London Breed, Nancy Pelosi all in attendance, hobnobbing with the maskless hordes, at this extremely posh billionaire heiress wedding," tweeted Liz Wolfe, editor of the libertarian-minded Reason magazine. "But hey, let's make sure San Francisco's kids mask up in schools."
Reopen California Schools tweeted Tuesday along with the picture of Pelosi in a large group without a mask:
"And why were guests able to do this? Maskless indoors when school dances across California are cancelled and kids must keep masks on 7 hours/day including outside at recess in many parts of CA including in SF."
In October, the city of San Francisco relaxed indoor mask requirements for religious gatherings if everyone in attendance is vaccinated, but only for groups of less than 100 people, Fox also reports.
