The United States shot down an Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps drone in northern Iraq as attacks on the Kurdish minority in the region are escalating.

U.S. Central Command Spokesman Joe Buccino said Wednesday the U.S. condemns the "unprovoked" attacks from Iran.

"Such indiscriminate attacks threaten innocent civilians and risk the hard-fought stability of the region," he said.

Buccino also said the drone was "brought down" because "it appeared as a threat to CENTCOM forces in the area."

However, no U.S. forces were wounded or killed, and no U.S. equipment was damaged, officials stated.

Iran is carrying out attacks throughout Iran's northern Kurdistan region that is says is targeting "terrorist" groups. However, the drone attacks appear to be targeting opposition groups, according to The Jerusalem Post.
