Texas primary results: Abbott to face off with O’Rourke, Paxton projected to proceed to runoff

Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott is projected to win his party's primary nomination on Tuesday, and is expected to face Democrat Beto O’Rourke this fall. 

However, incumbent Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton is expected by CNN to proceed to a runoff election.

Paxton must receive more than 50% of the vote in order to avoid the runoff election scheduled in May.

The Republican AG has 42% of votes with just of half of all precints in around 10:30 p.m. local time, Politico reported. George P. Bush, child of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, is second to Paxton with 22%.

Abbott received 69% of votes with 44% of precincts in as of 8 p.m. Challengers Don Huffines and Allen West both received about 11% at that time, according to Politico.

Former Rep. Beto O'Rourke dominated the Texas  Democratic primary for governor with 92% of votes.
