California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom spoke at an event in Austin, Texas, over the weekend despite California's restrictions on government travel to the state.

In 2017, then-California Attorney General Xavier Becerra prohibited state-funded and state-sponsored travel to Texas after the state enacted legislation that he said "allows foster care agencies to discriminate against children in foster care and potentially disqualify LGBT families from the state’s foster and adoption system." California also restricts travel to twenty-one other states for laws that allegedly discriminate against the LGBT community.

Newsom also blasted Republican policies in Austin over the weekend at The Texas Tribune's TribFest. Newsom also denied plans to run for president in 2024 or 2028 after creating speculation about a potential presidential run.

It is unclear whether the state of California helped fund Newsom's travel to Texas for TribFest. Gov. Newsom’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
