Biden: 'I have no idea whether there'll be a Republican Party' in 2024

President Joe Biden said in his first press conference since he took office that he plans to run for reelection in 2024, but added that he's not sure there will even be a Republican Party by then.

"My plan is to run for reelection, that's my expectation," Biden said. 

But the 78-year-old said he's a believer in fate.

"Look, I don't know where you guys come from, man," he told reporters at the White House. "I've never been able to travel — I'm a great respecter of fate. I've never been able to plan four and a half, three and a half years ahead for certain."

Biden was then asked if, should he run again, Vice President Kamala Harris would "be on your ticket?"

"I would fully expect that to be the case," he said. "She's doing a great job, she's a great partner. She's a great partner."

In one more follow-up question, Biden was asked: "Do you believe you'll be running against former President Trump?"

"Oh, come on," Biden said, amid GOP concerns that Democrats are seeking to federalize election rules to lock in permanent Democratic advantages. "I don't even think about — I don't — I have no idea. I have no idea whether there'll be a Republican Party. Do you?" 

After setting out some goals of his administration, Biden concluded: "For me it's about just putting one foot in front of the other."
