President Biden said Monday that he will speak publicly Monday to Americans about the situation in Afghanistan.

"I will be addressing the nation on Afghanistan at 3:45 PM ET today," Biden tweeted Monday morning.

On Sunday, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani fled as the Taliban took control of the capitol of Kabul, just weeks after U.S. troops withdrew from the country after 20 years.

The swift and sudden takeover by the Taliban has also resulted in thousands of U.S. troops trying to help with evacuations at the Kabul international airport.
