Biden removes GOP Senate candidate, TV host Dr. Oz from presidential fitness council

"This was a political firing because I’m calling out Biden’s failures on inflation, immigration, and COVID," Oz claimed.

President Joe Biden has fired U.S. Republican Pennsylvania Senate candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz, the TV host's campaign said Wednesday in a statement.

Biden last week demanded Oz and Georgia GOP Senate candidate Herschel Walker resign or face removal from the President's Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition, to which then-President Donald Trump appointed them.

"One week and three different explanations later, President Biden finally informed me today why he fired me from the Presidential Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition," Dr. Oz said in a press release.

The administration ultimately told Oz that he was removed from his position because it is customary for the White House to replace council members with people sharing the president's priorities, the Pennsylvania Republican's campaign stated.

The White House previously claimed that Oz needed to resign from the voluntary position due to a Biden administration internal policy and also because of the Hatch Act, which limits the political activities of government employees, according to the statement.

"This was a political firing because I’m calling out Biden’s failures on inflation, immigration, and COVID," Oz said. "The Woke Left will not silence or stop me from being a bold, conservative voice in the U.S. Senate."

Walker, a former football star who is running in the Georgia Republican primary for US Senate, has not stated whether he resigned or was fired from the council.

He indicated on Twitter last week that he would not resign.

"President Biden is so scared about us beating [Georgia Democratic Sen.] Raphael Warnock that he has asked me to resign from my unpaid position on the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition," Walker wrote. "I’m not a quitter so you are going to have to fire me."
