Former first lady Rosalynn Carter was diagnosed with dementia, her family said Tuesday.

Rosalynn Carter, 95, is continuing to live at her Georgia home with her husband, former President Jimmy Carter, who entered hospice care in February.

"Mrs. Carter has been the nation’s leading mental health advocate for much of her life," the Carter family said. "We hope sharing our family's news will increase important conversations at kitchen tables and in doctor’s offices around the country."
